Sizes: Adult
Materials:
Chunky yarn with gauge about 3 1 sts per inch
Needles: US10 1 or US11 (16 in. circular and one set DP)
Seed Stitch Pattern:
Row 1: K1, P1….
Row 2: P the knit sts., K the purl sts.
Repeat rows 1 and 2
Instructions:
Earflap (make 2)
CO 5 sts. work in Seed Stitch,
Inc 1 st on both sides every other row 3 times (13 sts). Break yarn and transfer to a spare needle.
Make 2nd earflap same as 1st , do not break yarn.
Proceed as follows:
CO 16 sts. Work Seed St. pattern across 13 sts of 1st earflap, CO 23 sts. Join in the round. (65 st)
Work 5 rounds in Seed St. pattern.
Next Round: Work in St. St. pattern until piece measures 4 in. from the edge.
Shape Crown: (decreasing rounds)
Round 1: *K 11, K2 tog* repeat around (60 sts)
Round 2: K all stitches
Round 3: *K 10, K2 tog* repeat around (55 sts)
Round 4: K all stitches
Continue in this manner until 30 sts remain
Switch to DP needles as needed.
Next Round: *K4, K2tog* repeat (25 sts)
Next Round: *K3, K2tog* repeat (20 sts)
Next Round: *K2, K2tog* repeat (15 sts)
Next Round: *K1, K2tog* repeat (10 sts)
Next Round: *K2tog* repeat (5 sts)
For pointed top work 4 rows even. (optional)
Break yarn. Draw end through rem. sts. and fasten securely.
Cords (make 2)
With crochet hook and double yarn chain 12 sts or,
Make a 3 sts I-cord or, Make a twisted cords.Attach to bottom of earflaps.With contrasting color work whip stitch embroidery around the edge of hat or, Single crochet around the edge .
